Introduction Fielddesk

All data registered in the vehicle will be stored in a database on several Fleet Complete servers that are located in highly secure service centres. With a login code you can log on to the Fielddesk web application using the internet (www.fielddesk.nl). This login code ensures that you log on to the data of your company.

Quality

Quality and reliability are of the utmost importance to Fleet Complete. This starts with reliability in the server park where the servers of Fleet Complete are located and on which your data is stored.
We will save your data for 7 years at two environments that are geographically distant from each other (Luxembourg and Amsterdam). If service is disrupted in one environment then the other takes over (also called mirroring). All servers have been virtualised and for data storage we make use of Netapp SANs. Within the SAN all parts are executed redundantly.
The key reporting database is not located on the NetApp but in an external disk array, configured in Raid 6. Because of that two data storage disks could malfunction completely without the user noticing anything. Multiple back-ups of the active databases are made daily that are then copied to the NetApp. We work with the secure connection HTTPS.
According to TÜV certification by an external party our software can easily be recompiled in a proprietary environment. An Escrow agreement guarantees that in case of bankruptcy of Fleet Complete you will be supplied with the source code by a party to be designated.

System requirements

Because all data will be retrieved from the internet, it is important to read through the system requirements as indicated in this paragraph. For the use of this web application it is recommended to use a pc with sufficient capacity.

  • A pc with at least a 2 GHz processor.
  • 1 Gb free MB RAM

Additionally, for optimal performance use Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome as your web browser. Experience has taught us that the default Windows web browser, Internet Explorer, delivers lower performance than the two browser alternatives mentioned. Because anything you retrieve in Fielddesk (internet) must be sent over a computer network, it is important that the network and internet connection that you use are of sufficient quality. The concept of quality in this context can be split in bandwidth (speed) and reliability.

  • Bandwidth (speed): The FieldDesk website does not need a lot of bandwidth. For optimal performance we advise an internet connection with a bandwidth of 4Mbps. In order to measure the speed of your internet connection you can go to the following website: http://www.speedtest.net.
  • Reliability (quality): Important for the functioning of the FieldDesk web application is the reliability and stability of the internet connection. This is the extent to which it can be guaranteed that a signal that is sent will actually arrive at the receiver, as well as the average time between sending and receiving of data. In order to measure the stability of your internet connection you can go to the following website: http://www.pingtest.net

In addition to your own pc and network connection there are often other factors within a company that also influence the internet experience. Think about the way in which your company network has been designed, the number of computers that make use of the (internet) connection at the same time and any security software that has been installed on the network nodes.Known issues that can negatively influence the internet performance are among others:

  • The use of a terminal server environment, such as Microsoft Terminal Services or Citrix, because in these cases many employees often make use of the resources of one central server.
  • Using a proxy server in order to regulate the internet traffic. If present, the proxy server checks the content of each website visited for insecure content, which could result in a possible delay. In order to guarantee performance in this situation as well you could set up an exception in your proxy server that ensures that traffic between your pc and the Fielddesk web application can pass unhindered and without delay. Your proxy server can also save - parts of - Fielddesk in a cache memory so that these are quickly accessible when you visit Fielddesk the next time.

Service and Support

Support desk

Fleet Complete has a support desk that can be reached on working days from 8.30AM until 5.00PM. Use of the support desk is included in the monthly hosting fees provided that the support relates to the giving of support to the client (handling and solving questions/problems, possibly remotely). If reports have to be produced and/or settings have to be adjusted, fees will be charged.

Project management

We realise that knowledge can make the difference. Knowledge also creates the difference between applied information and available information. Only applied knowledge will give you the returns that you aim for. Our project managers are knowledgeable. Knowledgeable about company processes, knowledgeable about the obstacles in obtaining acceptance, knowledgeable about human nature, which would be all too happy to leave everything as it is. By combining your knowledge and ours we can achieve an applied system that will make an important contribution to a higher return of your company.
